Je suis une océanographe biologiste spécialisée dans l’écologie du zooplancton, ces petits animaux qui dérivent dans la colonne d’eau. Nombre de ces organismes se nourrissent de phytoplancton et, en retour, ils sont la proie d’animaux plus gros, comme des poissons, des invertébrés, des oiseaux de mer et des mammifères marins. Mes recherches portent sur les facteurs biologiques et physiques qui régulent la distribution, l’abondance, la structure des communautés et l’apparition saisonnière du zooplancton.
Je m’intéresse en particulier à l’influence de caractéristiques du cycle vital, comme la dormance, sur les populations et les communautés de zooplancton et leurs réactions à la variabilité du climat. Mes approches de recherche incluent l’échantillonnage en mer, l’analyse statistiques, la culture de zooplancton et de phytoplancton, la prise de mesures physiologiques et la modélisation numérique du transport et de la dynamique des populations de plancton.
