Plain language summary

In this short communication, we report the observation of a tricotyledenous giant ragweed (Ambrosiatrifida L.) individual. In contrast to the normal dicotyledenous pattern of phyllotaxy where there are two leaves for every node of the plant, this individual was observed to express three axillary meristems at each node that intersected the main stem at angles of 120°.
