Laboratory Technician

Member of the National Surveillance Coordination Team (NSCT) for the Canadian Notifiable Avian Influenza Surveillance System(CanNAISS).

My duties under CanNAISS include (but are not limited to); ordering sampling kit supplies, preparing and shipping sampling kits, as well as collecting and compiling the epidemiological information received on the CanNAISS Submission Forms. I correspond with the CanNAISS Area Coordinators regularly to ensure that sampling kit requests are fulfilled, and that all required epidemiological data as well as invoicing information is provided to the NSCT from the private veterinarians. In addition to the above, I track all financial costs incurred by the CanNAISS program by the National Centre for Foreign Animal Disease, and report to the Head of Management Services with overall costs as well as a breakdown of costs by region and veterinarian. The data that I compile for CanNAISS (both epidemiological and financial) have been used in reports to the Epidemiological Surveillance Group of Canadian Food Inspection Agency, Science Branch.
