This media article provides updates on the Prairie Grain Development Committee (PGDC) meeting that took place for the first time online and the overall advances made with cultivar development of various crops such as durum wheat, winter wheat, barley and dry beans and so on. PGDC is a forum for the exchange of information relevant to the development of improved cultivars of grain crops for the western Canadian prairies (http://www.pgdc.ca/). It also gives details in regards to several major developments such as a durum wheat variety with intermediate resistance to Fusarium Head Blight (FHB), which is a devastating disease in small grains, and the first Canadian barley reference genome.
