Résumé en langage clair

Rootstocks are the bottom part of an apple tree that impacts various characteristics to the scion, or cultivar, which is grafted to it. Evaluation of the numerous rootstocks developed by breeding programs in the United States and Europe is essential for growers in Canada to understand how these will perform in our diverse Canadian climates. The NC-140 regional rootstock trials occur at designated sites across Canada, the United States and Mexico, providing a wide range of climatic conditions for evaluation of these rootstocks. Plantings in Nova Scotia include various rootstocks with either Modi or Buckeye Gala as the scion. Both planting continue to do well and differences between the rootstocks are apparent after only 2 years after transplanting.
