Résumé

Lodging, the permanent displacement of aboveground portions of the crop from the upright position, which is caused by the external forces induced by wind, storm, rain, or hail, is a common phenomenon in canola production and is the main constraint for increasing canola yields under favorable weather conditions. Using an electrical capacitance device, we illustrated that the application of electrical measurements, especially for root electrical capacitance (C), can serve as a good, non–invasive indicator of root anchorage strength (Sp). Considering the simplicity and speed of electrical measurements without damaging the plant, these measurements can be applied to assess the lodging resistances among various agronomic practices and can be applied in breeding programs for selecting genotypes with both strong Sp and high yield potential.
