Characterizing gramillin as a virulence factor in barley (Hordeum vulgare)

Citation

In this work we characterize a mycotoxin virulence factor from the economically important cereal pathogen Fusarium graminearum. The gramillin mycotoxin promotes pathogen growth in barley and maize though one variety of barley shows genetic resistance to gramillin. The relationship between gramillin resistance and Fusarium head blight resistance is discussed along with potential mechanisms for gramillin resistance.
