Énoncés de recherches/projets
La lutte biologique est un outil utile pour atténuer les impacts agricoles et environnementaux d’organismes nuisibles comme les mauvaises herbes. Une stratégie de lutte biologique efficace constitue une solution de lutte antiparasitaire peu coûteuse et durable à long terme, particulièrement là où la lutte chimique n’est pas possible pour des raisons économiques ou environnementales (p. ex. lutte contre les mauvaises herbes dans les grands pâturages indigènes). Le Canada est considéré comme un chef de file mondial de la découverte, du développement et de l’utilisation sécuritaire d’agents de lutte biologique contre les mauvaises herbes, et le programme d’ACC a donné lieu à plusieurs réussites notables depuis son lancement en 1951. Notre programme forme des partenariats avec des gouvernements régionaux, l’industrie (producteurs de bovins), le milieu universitaire et des experts internationaux (p. ex. Centre pour l’agriculture et les sciences biologiques internationales [CABI]) pour évaluer et lâcher des agents de lutte biologique contre de nouvelles mauvaises herbes au Canada et acquérir des connaissances sur ces agents.
