Recherche et / ou projets en cours

Dr Macdonald dirige des programmes interdisciplinaires pour étudier les voies environnementales de contaminants comprenant leur transmission, transport, et élimination des systèmes aquatiques. Cette étude inclut plusieurs cadres tels que les plates-formes et les bassins arctiques, les fjords de la Colombie-Britannique, le détroit de Géorgie et les lacs dans le bassin du fleuve Fraser. Dr Macdonald vise l'étude des sources propres au site de contaminants comprenant les usines de chloralcali, les usines de pâtes, les évacuations de résidus miniers et les exutoires municipaux, aussi bien que les questions plus générales concernant les contaminants telles que le transport atmosphérique à longue distance de contaminants semi-volatils dans l'océan Arctique et dans le bassin de Géorgie, et les impacts potentiels de l'exploration pétrolière sur les plates-formes canadiennes de l'Arctique de l'Ouest. Les contaminants sont étudiés selon la façon qu'ils entrent et sortent des masses d'eau naturelles et selon la façon dont ils empiètent sur les cycles biogéochimiques naturels.
