Selon les données issues principalement d’études d’observation :
L’exposition à certains composés organiques volatils (COV) et phtalates présents dans l’air intérieur pourrait altérer la fonction pulmonaire.
L’exposition à la pollution atmosphérique extérieure est associée à une fonction pulmonaire altérée, à certains troubles du rythme cardiaque, à la thrombose veineuse profonde, à l’épilepsie, à l’hospitalisation et à la mortalité.
Les personnes âgées et les personnes défavorisées sur le plan social pourraient être plus vulnérables aux effets nocifs de la pollution atmosphérique extérieure.
Les études en matière d’hygiène du milieu contribuent à évaluer le fardeau de la maladie dû à la pollution atmosphérique, dont les organismes de réglementation doivent tenir compte.
