Je suis intéressé par le développement d’approches pratiques et appliquant les concepts de précaution et d’écosystème à la gestion des pêches. Mon intérêt pour l’application de ces approches vise en particulier la plaque néo-écossaise de l’est et son stock de crevettes (Pandalus borealis). Récemment, j’ai travaillé sur la phénologie de la Pandalus borealis, et du phytoplancton en utilisant des méthodes de télédétection afin d’élucider les mécanismes sous-jacents, mais toujours inexpliqués, des corrélations entre l’abondance de cette crevette et ces paramètres environnementaux. Les résultats ont des applications directes pour l’évaluation des crevettes en incorporant les considérations environnementales et écosystémiques. En revanche, mes expériences dans la discipline de la conservation et l’évaluation des stocks, et même mes expériences plus progressistes, mais toujours orientées vers la théorie, dans le domaine des sciences des pêches m’ont également permis de développer un intérêt dans les champs de la philosophie et de la psychologie des sciences (en plus de me donner plusieurs maux de tête).
