Earl Davis est un scientifique principal de recherche au Centre géoscientifique du Pacifique de la Commission géologique du Canada, où il a commencé àtravailler en 1977 après avoir terminé un doctorat à l'Université de Washington Geophysics Group en 1975, et un stage post-doctoral à l'Institut de Massachusetts de Département technologie de la terre et Planetary science. Ses recherches ont porté sur l'état thermique de la terre et de l' évolution de lalithosphère océanique, sur la chaleur hydrothermique et le transport de masse à l' intérieur et la perte de la croûte océanique à des dorsales océaniques, lesflancs de la crête, et subduction zones, et sur la déformation et les changements dans l'état hydrologique des formations sous-plancher océanique associés au chargement océanographiques, les tremblements de terre, glissement parasismique, et inter -. sismique accumulation de déformation Avec l'appui technique de M. Bone, R. Meldrum, R. Macdonald , post-doctorants, et ses collègues, il a développé, construit et déployé instrumentation rapides mentsmesure et le suivi à long terme des températures, des pressions, et le mouvement du sol au fond de la mer et dans les forages océaniques profonds, y compris la chaleur du fond marin sondes, piézomètres du fond marin, fond de trou sondes de température pour le Ocean Drilling Program, LIÈGE pression de formation et de température observatoires à long terme pour les enregistreurs de pression de fond marin Ocean Drilling Program, et un instrument de l'accéléromètre et de pression ultra-large bande pour séismologie et géodynamique.
