  • Mène des recherches originales pour développer ou affiner des modèles au niveau de l'écosystème qui décrivent l'influence à long terme de la gestion des agroécosystèmes sur la santé environnementale, en se concentrant initialement sur les émissions de gaz à effet de serre, la séquestration du carbone et les contaminants atmosphériques.
  • Supervise, forme et évalue le personnel dans un projet de recherche sur la modélisation des écosystèmes.
  • Représente le département dans les comités nationaux et internationaux, en tant qu'expert en santé environnementale.
  • Sur la base de la littérature scientifique, des questions politiques émergentes et des opportunités scientifiques, rédige et soumet des propositions de recherche innovantes et originales.
  • Communique les résultats, concernant les questions de santé environnementale, aux scientifiques, aux décideurs et aux membres du grand public, via des présentations orales, des manuscrits scientifiques, des rapports des médias ou d'autres moyens.
  • Effectue des examens critiques des manuscrits scientifiques, des propositions de recherche et d'autres documents scientifiques, et transmet des recommandations.
  • Élabore des méthodes pour compiler, peser et intégrer des données de recherche propres au site, de partout au Canada et ailleurs, dans des modèles d'écosystème améliorés.
  • Interagit avec les chercheurs et les décideurs dans les programmes nationaux et autres réseau scientifiques pour construire des modèles pertinents aux problèmes environnementaux nationaux et internationaux.
  • À l'aide de modèles écosystémiques, détermine l'efficacité potentielle des pratiques agricoles proposées sur les émissions de gaz à effet de serre, les flux de carbone et d'azote et d'autres mesures de la santé environnementale à la ferme, à l'échelle régionale et nationale.
  • À l'aide de modèles écosystémiques, examine les rétroactions potentielles des changements mondiaux sur les processus dans les agroécosystèmes, en particulier ceux qui affectent la santé environnementale.
  • En coopération avec des collègues, conçoit et met en œuvre des méthodes pour tester la fiabilité des modèles d'écosystème et quantifier l'incertitude de leurs projections.
