Dr. Eveline M. Ibeagha-Awemu

Chercheuse en génomique animale

Mme Ibeagha-Awemu a obtenu un doctorat en génomique animale de l’Université Justus-Liebig de Giessen, en Allemagne, en 2003, et a fait ensuite des études postdoctorales à l’Université McGill. Elle s’est jointe à AAC en 2011 en tant que chercheuse en génomique animale.

Son programme de recherche vise à améliorer a) la productivité et la résistance aux maladies et b) la salubrité des chaînes de valeurs laitières et porcines.

Mme Ibeagha-Awemu utilise des technologies avancées et le séquençage de nouvelle génération (p. ex. le génotypage par séquençage, le génotypage haute densité par puce, le génotypage ciblé, le séquençage du génome complet, le séquençage au bisulfite du génome complet, le séquençage ciblé au bisulfite des amplicons, etc.) afin de détecter les marqueurs génétiques et épigénétiques à l’échelle génomique, ainsi que le profilage de l’expression génétique (séquençage de l’ARNm et de l’ARNlnc) et des microARN régulateurs (séquençage des miARN) afin de détecter les réseaux de gènes, les voies géniques et les marqueurs géniques et épigénétiques de la production de lait et des traits de maladie (mammite bovine et paratuberculose bovine).

Elle étudie aussi la façon dont les nutriments interagissent avec le génome et l’épigénome (neutrigénomique) pour augmenter la productivité et la teneur des composants souhaitables (p. ex. les acides gras polyinsaturés, le cholestérol, etc.) du lait de vache.

Un autre volet de sa recherche consiste à manipuler le microbiote intestinal au moyen de différentes stratégies (probiotiques, transplantation du microbiote fécal, etc.) pour stimuler l’établissement microbien précoce, le développement immunitaire, l’amélioration de la santé intestinale et la productivité. Cela pourrait également réduire l’utilisation des antibiotiques et la contamination de l’environnement de l’étable par des pathogènes.
