M. Hiebert dirige un programme de recherche en génétique du blé qui consiste principalement à étudier les gènes de résistance aux maladies du blé et du blé dur à l’aide de diverses approches de la génétique et de la génomique.

Son programme de recherche vise principalement l’étude des gènes de résistance aux maladies dans le but de contribuer à la production alimentaire durable, à l’atténuation des risques et à la sécurité alimentaire.
