Dr. Carolyn Fitzsimmons

Dr Fitzsimmons is co-located at the University of Alberta and works in the areas of beef production and molecular genetics. She has a particular interest in the genetic control of residual feed intake, and fetal programing via epigenetics.

- La prise alimentaire résiduelle (RFI) et la production de méthane chez les bovins, ainsi que l’amélioration générale de l’efficacité et de la durabilité de la production de viande bovine.
- Régulation de l’expression des gènes par des moyens alimentaires (nutrigénomique).
- Potentiels génétiques différents des réponses individuelles aux changements de régime alimentaire (nutrigénétique).
- Changements permanents de l’expression génique pouvant être programmés dans la génération suivante par la nutrition ou d’autres facteurs influant sur la génération parentale (épigénétique).
En utilisant les modifications de l’expression génique dues à l’alimentation ou à d’autres traitements, on peut mieux comprendre le fonctionnement des systèmes biologiques et appliquer ces connaissances à l’amélioration de la production de viande bovine.
