Ma recherche porte sur la pisciculture, plus particulièrement sur les façons d’améliorer le rendement et de réduire les impacts environnementaux des exploitations piscicoles. Je dirige notamment un projet sur l’alimentation des stocks reproducteurs de morue (financé par le Programme coopératif de recherche-développement en aquaculture, PCRDA), en collaboration avec l’industrie et le projet sur le génome de la morue. Étant donné que l’élevage de la morue n’en est qu’à ses débuts, il faudra faire plus de recherche pour favoriser son développement. L’essor de la salmoniculture et ses impacts revêtent une grande importance pour les collectivités de l’Atlantique Nord.
Je dirige un projet sur les effets de l’hypoxie sur la physiologie du saumon (PCRDA). En outre, dans le cadre de la composante santé des animaux aquatiques de notre section, je mène des recherches sur les effets de l’eau produite et rejetée par les plates-formes de forage pétrolier sur la santé et la physiologie de la morue. Si tout va bien, ce projet ainsi que celui portant sur l’alimentation de la morue nous permettront d’en savoir davantage sur la physiologie de cette espèce si importante pour le Canada atlantique.
