Agro-Ecosystem Resilience

Research focuses on soil, water and nutrient management and development of management practices for tree fruit and wine grapes. The development of models for climate, land and water resources, and crop suitability supports National Climate Change Adaptation strategies.

Successful solutions

  • Developed new drip irrigation methodologies that conserve water while enhancing fruit quality for wine production.

  • Improved water quality through best management practices that reduce nitrate leaching from red raspberries.

  • Developed the BC Water Demand Model, used by 30 communities for regional water supply/demand, to assure future agricultural water supply.
