Weed management from the market garden to the watershed.

Ecological weed management is the application of ecological principles to manage weeds in agroecosystems. The primary goal of ecological weed management is not to eliminate weeds but to limit their negative impact on crops while reducing the environmental impact of weed management. Successful ecological weed management uses a variety of integrated approaches often termed “many little hammers” which attempt to stress and interrupt weed growth and development at key stages in their life cycles. Adoption of ecological weed management principles, however, remains low due to increased complexity associated with its implementation. In this workshop we will review the key concepts and theory of ecological weed management, how weed management decisions can be incorporated in to an ecological weed management plan, and things to consider as you implement sustainable weed management programs in your production system.
