Northern growth project continues to thrive

A containerized food production system was deployed in Gjoa Haven, Nunavut, in 2020. The container is powered with renewable energy generated by wind and solar systems set up and maintained by the Arctic Research Foundation. The system has been in continuous operation for two years spanning three winters to assess performance and improve the design. This article provides an update on progress to date, including additional energy generation, the growth of new crops, improvements to climate control and data collection, and reuse of waste materials in cold frame greenhouses.
