Plain language summary

We reviewed the progress toward completion of a DNA barcoding library for Canadian Weevils. DNA based identification is especially important because harmfull weevil larvae can be found in many crops commodities. Weevils cannot be identified morphologically in the larval stage. AAFC, CFIA, and other national plant protection organizations need DNA characterization of weevils for plant health and food security. We have made significant progress toward this goal, but there remains much more to do.
