Abstract

Persistence of seed productivity in successive years is one of the unresolved issues which future studies will be directed to. Various pests, for example, those causing silver tops in grasses, case bearer in clover, various foliar and root diseases and increasing weed pressure are potential factors undermining economic viability of the forage seed industry. The future forage research program at Beaverlodge Research Farm will continue with integrative systems perspectives through multi-stakeholders collaboration towards advancing the knowledge and genetic resource base of potential forage crops for sustainable intensification and diversification of the forage seed sector in the Peace River Region. The research efforts will also be diversified to improve forage biomass quality, productivity and persistence.
