Large Offshore Marine Protected Area Program Head

Program Head within the Marine Spatial Ecology and Analysis Group. Currently my main role is to work with existing science programs and develop new ones in the offshore region of Canada's Pacific. This an unique area with many seamount and hydrothermal vents and this area was recently announced as an Area of Interest (AOI) for consideration as a Marine Protected Area (MPA) under Canada's Oceans Act.

Current research and/or projects

I evaluate benthic impacts and species distribution with mapping/models of offshore seamounts. I collaborate with academics and First Nations to gather baseline and monitoring data, ecological monitoring and do research to support evaluation of the large offshore area of interest. We are currently conducting field work to support development of ecological overview for the area.
