Marine Conservation Officer

Regional liaison for Marine Environmental Quality groups across the country. Supporting Marine Environmental Quality initiatives on developing and revising policies with regards to the mitigation of impacts of anthropogenic underwater noise on marine mammals, fish, and invertebrates.

  • Cataloguing and categorizing impacts of human activities on marine species, habitat and ecological functions.
  • Liaise with other DFO sectors and Government of Canada departments

Coordinating research and developing policy on threats to marine life including underwater noise and its impacts on marine mammals.

Professional activities / interests

I am a Marine Conservation Officer at Fisheries and Oceans Canada, in the Aquatic Ecosystems, Marine Planning and Conservation Branch. My current work focuses on underwater noise mitigation and policy – specifically looking at the impacts of human-induced underwater noise on marine mammals, fish, and inverts.

 

My career focus before working for the government has been on MPA Network coordination, biophysical monitoring in tropical ecosystems, comparing underwater survey methods, with a special interest in elasmobranch conservation.
