Curator of the Canadian Plant Virus Collection

The Canadian Plant Virus Collection (CPVC) maintains viable virus isolates infecting crops of economic importance in Canada (with a particular emphasis on horticultural crops) and provides access to their genetic information.  The CPVC supports  Agriculture & Agri-Food Canada priorities, in particular those aimed at addressing threats to the value chain.  It is an invaluable resource by providing positive controls for surveys/diagnostic research, and by helping evaluate the diversity of plant viruses and the emergence of virulent strains.  . The CPVC is the largest collection of its kind in Canada and is both a repository and distributor of viral genetic resources for Canadian and international researchers and diagnostic groups. The CPVC currently has 746 accessions consisting of both freeze dried (461) and living infected hosts (285) and includes many species significant to Canadian agriculture with representatives from quarantined species, and material preserved for genetic resource purposes.Clients include researchers from AAFC, other federal and provincial departments, universities and the private sector.
