Jean-François Côté (PhD)

Research Scientist
I am a research scientist with a background in physics and computer science. I have a Ph.D. in remote sensing from the University of Sherbrooke. My works include the use of remote sensing methods to monitor, assess and characterize forest composition and structure. I develop software applications to reconstruct in detail the 3D structure of trees and forests using terrestrial LiDAR. I make use of emerging technologies such as LiDAR remote sensing, architectural modelling and artificial intelligence to better estimate forest characteristics and to measure new indicators linked to tree quality and wood fibre attributes.
