Current research and/or projects

Mr. Emberley grew up in a rural fishing community off eastern Newfoundland and has been interested in the fishing industry since a young age. His interest continued through his post secondary education and now into his career. Mr. Emberley has a diverse working background, gathering experience in river ecosystems, shellfish aquaculture, environmental consulting, as well as private contracting. He is relatively new to the Department but in this short time he has worked in a number of areas, including the Aquaculture group, Species at Risk, and the Small Pelagics group.

Some recent highlights of his research include:

  • Worked with industry to determine Atlantic mackerel distribution and biology on the Scotian Shelf.
  • Contributed to technical aspects of initial polyculture studies.
  • Organized and conducted trips on industry vessels to gather data on Cusk (Brosme brosme) bycatch and survival in the offshore lobster fishery.
  • Certificate of training on Acoustic Data Analysis using Echoview®

Mr. Emberley has collaborated with, and formed many positive working relationships with the fishing industry. He is currently providing technical support for the multi-species bottom trawl surveys and the Bay of Fundy / Scotian Shelf cod assessment.
