Herb Vandermeulen

Current research and/or projects

My field work includes nearshore mapping surveys with towfish (sidescan and video) and echo sounders to produce GIS projects indicating macrophytes, cobble fields, mud and sand bottoms. I provide advice on:

  • rockweed, Irish Moss and kelp harvests in PEI, NS and NB
  • the ecosystem impacts of sea cucumber and sea urchin harvests
  • potential finfish and shellfish aquaculture impacts on important habitats such as eelgrass and kelp
  • artificial reefs and eelgrass transplantation
  • HADD and compensation proposals for the marine nearshore
