Dr. Lordwin Jeyakumar

Jeyakumar’s research focusses on the broader areas of water resources and environmental engineering ( irrigation, drainage, contaminant hydrology, BMPs and water quality, wastewater treatment and modeling), sustainable agricultural production systems, greenhouse gas emissions, and application of geographic information systems and remote sensing. His primary goal is to develop innovative and sustainable solutions to emerging water resources and environmental problems such as a result of intensive farming, deforestation, pollutants, soil degradation and waste.
Current research and/or projects
Jeyakumar's current research program is specifically targeted to improve water quality of agricultural watersheds that helps growers to reduce the amount of nutrients in drainage water and develop tools to solve complex watershed management problems.
Research and/or project statements
Current Projects:
1. Improving nutrient balances on dairy farms using model farmlets and simulation
2. Performance evaluation of field-scale denitrification wood chip bioreactors treating agricultural tile drainage water in a cold climate
3. Effect of biochar on soil fertility, forage crop production, nitrate losses and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions
4. Design, installation, operation and maintenance of subsurface drip irrigated half-high bush blueberries
