Dr. Eleanor J. Berryman

I am a research scientist in the Environmental division CanmetMINING. I am part of a team that reviews impact statements for prospective mines to evaluate the potential for acid rock drainage and metal leaching potential and provide suggestions on mine waste management strategies. My research focus is on the mineralogy and enviromental geochemistry of mine and mineral processing wastes, primarily tailings and dusts.
Current research and/or projects
My expertise is in mineralogy, crystal chemistry, mineral physics, and the interaction of minerals and their host environments. I am versed in electron microscope, X-ray diffraction, and spectroscopic techniques, including synchrotron based techniques. Prior to starting my government research position, I did research on the mineral tourmaline.
