Research Scientist

Dr. Moniri has 15 years’ experience in catalyst development and reaction engineering. He has been involved in development and scaling up of many industrial processes such as H2S splitting to produce hydrogen and catalytic combined methane reforming. As project leader at CanmetENERGY-Devon, Dr. Moniri has been involved in conducting experimental and theoretical research on energy sustainability and carbon management projects. These include, but not limited to, carbon dioxide and natural gas utilization via electrochemical and photochemical catalytic processes. He is playing a crucial role between federal and provincial labs and academia to achieve the objective of his collaborative projects.

Current research and/or projects

  • Photochemical H2 Production from Waste Materials and Renewable Energy Sources
  • Dry Reforming of Methane to Produce Syngas
  • Reforming and Oxidative Dehyrogenation of (C2-C3) to Olefins
  • Partial Upgrading Technologies

Research and/or project statements

Our focus at CanmetENERGY Devon is on the development of clean fossil fuels and related environmental technologies specifically on oil sands by generating knowledge to provide solutions to industry, advice government policymakers and regulators, and provide Canadians with relevant information on oil sands and heavy oil issues. To accomplish this goal successfully we foster a broad range of research partnerships with manufacturers, academia, planners, builders, and all levels of government, by working collaboratively to identify, test, and innovate products and processes beneficial to the lives of Canadians.
