Plant Pathologist working on fungal and bacterial diseases of fruit trees and wine grapes

Current research and/or projects

General research focus is on the diagnostic of fungal and bacterial pathogens of tree fruit and wine grapes; detection and molecular characterization of new and emerging plant pathogens; and the influence on microbial communities on plant health.

Current Projects:

  • Hot water treatment as an alternative to fumigation to control pests and disease on nursery grown fruit trees
  • Identifying the cause(s) of two emerging Fruit Tree Decline Diseases in Canada
  • Crown Gall Disease of Grapevines: Identification of a biocontrol and sustainable management strategies
  • From nursery to vineyard: implementation of effective management strategies against grapevine trunk diseases in Canada

Education and awards

  • M.Sc. Plant Pathology - Department of Environmental Sciences, University of Guelph
  • B.Sc. Biochemistry - Department of Biochemistry and Microbiology, University of Victoria
  • Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada’s Research Branch Achievement Award (2010) for research on "Detection of Plant Pathogens by DNA Macroarray Hybridization”
