Soil Science – Soil Organic Carbon Cycling, Carbon Accounting in Canadian Agriculture, Pedology and Landscape Processes

  • Defines, organizes and carries out investigations in the field of soil carbon and pedology in support of national research programs as outlined by the research director.
  • Plans and determines new approaches for assessing the effects of soil management on soil carbon and soil quality.
  • Defines, develops and delivers research objectives, conducts field work and provides leadership for studies of soil C in the Landscape
  • Assesses models that determine effects of soil use on soil organic carbon and greenhouse gas emissions required for annual national and international reporting commitments. Compares modeled and measured results, and the sensitivity and uncertainty of simulations.
  • Evaluates existing and new techniques for quantifying change in soil carbon storage from field measurements and through modeling approaches.
  • Analyses complex and comprehensive data sets for dissemination to colleagues and other members of the scientific community.
  • Researches, reviews and studies new methods and techniques for quantifying and estimating changes in soil quality attributes for verification and the study of soil and landscape processes.
