I contribute to the innovation and integrated production practices to increase economic profitability and competitiveness of farmers and the pulse industry in Canada, through the development of dry bean and soybean varieties and germplasm with improved yield, disease resistance and seed quality for commercial production in Manitoba and the surrounding regions.

Current research and/or projects

Early-maturing dry bean variety and germplasm development for Manitoba and western Canada; CAP Pulse Cluster

Development of processing strategies for innovative commercially-ready pulse ingredients for the Canadian food sector; CAP Pulse Cluster

Short season food type soybean breeding; CAP CFCRA Cluster

Evaluation and selection of adzuki beans for adaptation and production in Manitoba; Manitoba Pulse and Soybean Growers

Research and/or project statements

  • Developing dry bean cultivars for production in Manitoba and western Canada
  • Soybean variety development
  • Genetic resources and genetic enhancement of pulse crops in Canada
  • Improvement of bean food quality and marketability
  • Molecular markers and genetic mapping of agronomic traits
